The Troy Dixie Boys will begin their 2016 tournament schedule on Monday when they take on Geneva.
The Dixie Boys have waited longer to get things started, and Coach Kevin Bryan said the time off has his boys ready to begin on Monday.
“My boys are excited to get going, Bryan said. “We have scheduled some practice games, but they are tired of practicing. They are ready to play.”
In tournament play it’s all about who comes into the games prepared and playing the best baseball. The Dixie Boys have been making sure they check off all the boxes when it comes to working on the little things, such as fundamentals.
“We have been working on it all,” Bryan said. “We are trying to make sure that we don’t give anything away and that we make the plays we are supposed to make.”
Bryan has been using the extra practice time to gauge how much his players have learned throughout their JV seasons as well as what they learned during the short regular season of rec ball.
In the District 6 tournament in Enterprise, Troy will be matched up with Enterprise, Geneva and Ozark.
“Defensively we are strong enough to make the routine plays,” Bryan said. “I think we are going to have to have good hitting to go along with it with the teams we will be playing. Two of them I know have good hitting teams, so we are going to have to generate runs.”
The 2016 Dixie boys team is made up of: Caden Bryan, Jaylen Deveridge, Bryan Galloway, Caleb Gamble, Payne Griffin, Logan Johnson, Hunter Keenan, Javaris Mcnair, Ty Singleton, Holt Steed and Landon Thrash.
Troy and Geneva’s first round game will begin on Monday at 6 p.m. at Griffin Field in Enterprise.
