The American Legion Post 70 19U team fell 11-6 to the Diamond Elite on the final day of the Auburn University Showcase hosted by the East Cobb Astros.
“We kind of expected it being an early morning game,” said Troy Post 70 head coach Rush Hixon. “We threw a variety of guys that aren’t really pitchers. We made some errors, and they hit the ball a little bit.”
Troy was able to cut the deficit down to three runs in the third when they scored five runs courtesy of two errors and three walks.
Chase Hartley, Andrew Griggs and DJ Law all had hits for Troy.
“It wasn’t a good outing,” Hixon said. “It wasn’t very good anywhere. No aspect of the game was good, but you have to learn and grow from it.”
On Tuesday, Troy Post 70 got a 3-1 win over the host team East Cobb Astros. Parker Warren pitched a complete game for Troy Post 70. He allowed just four hits and struck out seven batters.
“That was a different team yesterday,” Hixon said. “We came out with a chip on our shoulder. We really wanted to win that game, and we got a great pitching performance by Parker Warren. Anytime you can get that on the mound, the guys feed off that and play behind him.”
Gage Herring finished the game 1-3 with a double. John Miller went 2-2 with a single, while Chase Hartley had an RBI single.
Troy Post 70 will now head to the Independence Day Classic in Columbia, Tennessee.
“The good thing is that it’s an American Legion tournament,” Hixon said. “Most of the teams will be very good American Legion teams. This will give us a good impression on where we actually stand with other Legion teams. We have only played two Legion games this summer so it will be good to feel each other out.”
Troy Post 70 will open the Independence Day Classic against Pontotoc Post 13 from Mississippi. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
