The doors of the sanctuary of First Baptist Church on Troy have been opened this week to give people of all faiths the opportunity to come and spend a time in prayer during these times of social and political unrest.

The Rev. Luke Lane, church pastor, said the doors were opened on Wednesday morning to provide a quiet place for people to come and pray for the city, the country and the world.

“We felt there was need for a place for people to come and spend quiet time with God asking Him for what only He can do to rectify the situation here and around the world,” Lane said. “The sanctuary will be open today and Friday from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and we invite those of all faiths to come and spend time in prayer for all people and this nation and all the world.”

Lane said, although no one was monitoring the sanctuary Wednesday, there were people who saw the marquee and came to offer their prayers.

“Not as many as we would have liked but we expect more people today and Friday was more people know the sanctuary is open,” he said. “Prayer works.”

Lane said there is the possibility that the sanctuary of First Baptist Church will be open at other times to give people a quiet place for prayer in today’s uncertain world.
