Troy student burned by fire baton at band camp

A Troy University student was severely burned in a freak accident involving fire batons Tuesday while instructing majorettes at New Brockton High School’s band camp.
The student was transported by helicopter to UAB Hospital in Birmingham to be treated.
Coffee County Superintendent Terry Weeks released a statement about the incident Wednesday.
“School personnel responded quickly by calling for emergency services,” Weeks said in the statement. “We have been informed that she is receiving appropriate medical care and attention for her injuries.
New Brockton High School personnel were present with the students when the accident occurred.”
Weeks said that no New Brockton students were injured in the accident.
