Candidates in Troy and Brundidge will have one last chance to separate themselves from the pack at public forums this week before residents take to the polls next Tuesday.

The Legislative Committee of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce will host the forums.

“In Troy and Brundidge we have so much competition that the voters need to come out and listen firsthand to what these candidates have to say,” said Donna Horn, chairman of the legislative committee.

“We encourage everybody to come out and ask questions and make an intelligent informed decision on who they vote for.”

The first forum will be held at Brundidge Station today at 6 p.m. for candidates in the Brundidge election.

The most hotly contested spot in Brundidge is the mayoral seat. Six candidates are running for the position, namely Isabell Boyd, Cynthia Pearson, Jamie Powell, Lawrence Bowden, Charlie Harris and Johnny Ross.

Mayor Jimmy Ramage announced that he would not seek reelection for the seat, but instead run for the open District 4 seat. He is challenged by Byron Gaynor.

The District 5 seat is being sought by Ira Lampley, Chris Foster and James Jones.

The second forum will be held on The Square on at 6 p.m. Thursday for Troy candidates.

Olanda Hardy and Raymond Sexton challenge incumbent Jason Reeves for mayor.

Five candidates are in the race for the District 1 seat. Those candidates are Anthony Jackson, Clarence Scott, Mary Helen Collins, Matthew Jordan and Robert Jones.

Incumbent Dejerilyn King Henderson and Wanda Moultry compete again for the District 5 seat after being the only two candidates for the seat in 2012.

Questions for the candidates can be submitted at each forum from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Questions will be posed by a panel of moderators.
