Businesses throughout Pike County are invited to a Business After Hours event today to learn more about the Troy City Schools Education Foundation.
Hosted by Alex Whaley II and George Tarbox, the event takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Center for the Arts, 300 E. Walnut St.
“We’re inviting members of the business community to come out and learn about the Troy City Schools Education Foundation, including what we do and how they can help,” said Dr. Candy Howard-Shaughnessy, a foundation member.
The TSCEF provides grants to teachers throughout the district to fund projects and programs that enrich the learning experiences of students.
The Foundation has awarded more than $100,000 in grants over the past 10 years or so, and each of the grants is funded through donations.
“We receive our donations from the community and individuals; from employees of the system, who donate through payroll deductions; and from corporate sponsors and support,” she said.
The foundation is increasing its focus on corporate sponsorship this year. “The foundation is encouraging businesses to commit to donating since the economic development of our city highly depends on the educational status of its citizens,” Howard-Shaughnessy said. “We must start with the children in our community, which is exactly what the TCS Education Foundation strives to do.”
In addition to members of the foundation, recipients of grants and school administrators will be on hand to answer questions and share information during the Business After Hours event.
