All proud pet owners are encouraged to mark their calendars for Saturday, Sept. 17, the date the Tractor Supply Company store in Troy will be celebrating Pet Appreciation Week, Sept. 14-18, with the store’s main event.
The annual event will feature pet adoptions and connections with community groups that have pets at the center of what they do.
The Pet Appreciation Week’s Main Event will include drawings, for gift cards and family-friendly activities.
“Pet Appreciation Week is a time when our love for animals really shines,” said Wendell McDaniel, manager of the Troy Tractor Supply store.
“It’s an opportunity for us to celebrate the love of pets, find great homes for local adoptable animals and showcase the community partners and rescuers that care for these animals year round.”
McDaniel said, in addition to supporting community groups in their work to find good homes for dogs and cats, Pet Appreciation Week will help raise awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering pets and provide information on proper pet care and nutrition.
Several activities will be take place during the main event from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Troy Animal Rescue Project (TARP) will have dogs, cats, puppies and kittens available for adoption at the Pet Appreciation Week Main Event.
Diane Gunst, TARP foster adoption coordinator, said the animals that will be available for adoption may be viewed on the TARP facebook page or at troyanimalrescueproject.org.
An application is required to adopt a TARP foster animal as well as a fee that covers the animal’s shots and spay or neuter procedure.
“The adoption fee for dogs is $50 and for cats, it’s $25,” Gunst said. “For dog adoptions, TARP does make a home visit to make sure that it is a safe environment for the dog. For cats, we ask that they will be kept as indoor cats because the life span of an indoor cat is longer.”
Those who want to provide a forever home for a dog or cat are encouraged to attend the Tractor Supply store’s Pet Appreciation Week Main Event and choose from the foster animals that TARP has available for adoption.
“We are in need for foster homes for our animals,” Gunst said. “TARP is a foster-based rescue and the animals that we rescue are kept in foster homes until they are adopted.”
