The Charles Henderson Trojans make the transition to the playoffs on Tuesday As they head to Montgomery to take part in the Class 5A Area 4 tournament.
“We are very excited,” said head coach Jennifer Sikes, adding that she hopes the team will continue to concentrate and improving critical skills.
“I feel like the most important thing is keeping the serve. When you lose the serve, you are just giving them points. I preach being defensive and not giving up free points,” she said. “Serving is that one perfect thing that we need to do.”
The Trojans will be matched up with both Greenville and Brewbaker in the tournament. The Trojans lost to Brewbaker in straight sets, 16-25, 28-30, 19-25 on Thursday. With a win over Greenville on Tuesday the two will matchup again with the championship on the line.
“We came out and we shocked ourselves,” Sikes said. “We played a heck of a match. I told the girls that third time is a charm.”
The Trojans may have the benefit of playing their best volleyball heading into the post season.
“That is very important because the competition is only going to get tougher,” Sikes said. “To advance out of area and regionals you have to be on your game and be playing the best volleyball that you can play. We have the talent and the ability. We just have to get that wining determination.”
A win over Greenville in the opening round would guarantee the Trojans a spot in the regional tournament regardless of what happens in the championship match.
The Trojans will take on Greenville at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brewbaker Technology Magnet School.
