The Charles Henderson Trojans defeated Greenville on Tuesday in the Class 5A Area 4 tournament to earn a spot in the regional tournament.
The Trojans opened the tournament with a 25-19, 25-7, 25-19 win over Greenville before falling to Brew Tech in the area championship game 28-26, 23-25, 10-25, 9-25.
The Trojans finished the regular season 3-20, but did what they had to do to earn the berth into the post season.
“The girls are very excited,” said Trojans head coach Jennifer Sikes. “I don’t think are record really shows what we are made of. We did not play our best today against Greenville, I think they (Greenville) were looking ahead to that Brew Tech matchup and we came out like gangbusters.”
After taking control of Greenville in straight sets, the Trojans entered the Brew Tech matchup riding high with confidence. They won the first game 28-26 and simply ran out of gas.
“That would be the best way to put it,” Sikes said. “They played three games before that one and ran out of steam.”
Against Greenville, Lindsay Fox had 14 points with four aces and seven kills. Abigail Salmon had 10 points, three aces and four kills. Rose Snyder and six kills and Mykyia Milton had five kills, while Sydney Watson had three and Victoria Mahone had one.
Against Brew Tech Salmon had six points, Tucker Earles had five points with two aces. Addison Bryan, Fox and Watson all had three kills apiece.
The Trojans will take part in the Class 5A Regional tournament beginning this afternoon against Demopolis at the Crampton Multiplex in Montgomery.
