Troy’s 28-21 victory at South Alabama was not only a huge Sun Belt Conference win that makes us bowl eligible at 6-1, but it gave a national television audience a good look at what coach Neal Brown is building at Troy.

Coming off a 4-9 season a year ago, Brown has the Trojans in a good position to win the Sun Belt in only his second year.

I say that knowing that you’ve got to play each opponent one game at a time. Any of the five teams remaining on our schedule are capable of beating us. The reason I feel so good about our chances is that we play Appalachian State and Arkansas State at home on November 12 and 17^th. Then we play at 2-5 Texas State on the 26^th and Georgia Southern on the road on December 3 to end the season. Sure it won’t be easy but the teams left on our schedule are the three we’ve got beat. Two are at home and I like our chances.

Wouldn’t that be something if we win the Sun Belt?

Another reason for me being so confident is because not only is our team fired up, but also our students and our fan base are finally excited about our football team.

I don’t think we would have beaten South Alabama without the tremendous crowd support, especially from our students and the band. There were over 2,000 students standing in the south end zone. In all I would say Troy’s fan support at the game was over 8,000 and they were extremely loud.

I have been to a lot of Troy road games over the years, but I’ve yet to see a huge crowd like that one Thursday night. It was big time! Who ever were watching the game, whether they were at the game or watching on ESPN had to be impressed with the band and fan support.

I know the bowl selection committee had to be very impressed with Troy’s team, the marching band and fan support.

The Camellia Bowl, the Cure Bowl from Orlando and Mobile’s own Dollar General Bowl were all represented at the game. The thing they look for when choosing a team to represent their bowl is something they saw in Troy at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

By the way the 30,837-paid attendance was the second largest crowd ever for a Jaguar home game.

After a needed rest, our Trojans return home on Saturday against the Minuteman of UMASS. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. lets show our support by packing the stadium.
