Amidst the celebration for Troy’s first selection to a bowl game for the first time since 2010, Troy head coach Neal Brown’s name began circulating in coaching rumors.

After four seasons, Cincinnati head coach and former Auburn head coach Tommy Tubberville stepped down, leaving the position open.

Shortly after the news broke, ESPN reported that Brown was near the top of the list of candidates to become the new Bearcat head coach. The list also included Western Kentucky head coach Jeff Brohm, who on Monday took the head-coaching job at Purdue.

“I’m not going to respond to any Internet rumors or job chatter,” Brown told the Montgomery Advertiser on Sunday. “I am not going to speak about any other job.

“I am extremely happy here. We have a great relationship with Jeremy, our AD. Really nothing else to share.”

Brown coached under Tubberville from 2010 until 2012 at Texas Tech and helped lead one of the nations more dynamic offenses. At Troy, he has compiled an overall record of 13-11 in two seasons and is one of the nation’s youngest head coaches at 36.

Brown and the Trojans will play in their first bowl game since 2010 when they travel to Mobile to take part in the Dollar General Bowl on December 23.
