The Christmas season brings back memories of the past

Have yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Fran Sinatra. The words to my favorite Christmas song on YouTube helps make my season bright. All you’ve got to do is go to Google and ask for that song and the words to it will come out on your screen. In fact ask for any song and it will appear and then go to YouTube and hear it.
If you like Christmas music like I do, it’s a must right there on your phone. As we celebrate Christmas what better time can you think about all those great Christmas’s of the past with our family and friends.
To me the Christmas season brings those memories of our loved ones back to life if you let it happen. It’s a time to remember. Don’t you know they would all like to be remembered especially for how special they were at Christmas? My grandmother’s chocolate pie and how granddaddy would take us boys squirrel hunting on Christmas morning. The warmth of that old fireplace, how my mother would always make things special, and our Christmas dinner was fit for a king. Lane cake was one of her specialties, then the Ambrosia and lemon cheesecake.
I can remember those cold mornings out in the back yard picking up pecans to make money to buy Christmas presents. When that cracker sack was full I’d head to downtown with that sack over my shoulder just as proud as I could be. Then it was off to the square to look at the bicycles, trains and BB guns at Mr. Ed Hollis’ Western Auto store. Then up to Elmores to buy some Christmas presents.
On Christmas morning it made me feel good to watch my daddy open up that pair of socks and when momma opened up her chocolate covered cherries. Some times Santa was real generous and blue jeans and tennis shoes were plenty.
There was always plenty to eat. There was fresh fruit, chocolate drops and coconut gumdrops.
It was a great Christmas spirit always at my house. We always knew whose birthday it was and made sure he was in our blessings. Sometimes we stayed at home, but most of the time we were off to grandma’s house in the country where all my aunts and uncles and cousins were.
It was a time where everybody loved each other and enjoyed Christmas together. It was where memories were made that lasted a lifetime. If I can share one thing with you on this Christmas, listen to the words of my favorite Christmas song and it will tell it all.
“Have yourself a merry little Christmas, let your heart be light.
From now on, our troubles will be out of sight. Have yourself a merry little Christmas make the Yule time Gay. From now on, our troubles will be miles away.
Here we are as in golden days, happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are near to us gather near to us once more.
Through the years we all will be together if the fates allow.
So hang a shining star upon the highest bough and have yourself a merry little Christmas now.”
From my house to yours, Merry Christmas!
