People from all around Pike County will be in Downtown Troy this weekend searching shops and restaurants for some very particular and peculiar items.
The Pike County Chamber of Commerce’s downtown committee is hosting their annual Downtown Scavenger Hunt this weekend where contestants must find a specific item at each participating downtown shop or restaurant for a chance to win $500 in “Downtown Dollars.”
Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy and the chamber’s downtown committee said the event is a good way to experience downtown Troy.
“The Scavenger Hunt is a lot of fun and is a great way to discover all that our downtown businesses have to offer,” Windham said.
Each participant will get a card with each participating business on it. When participants enter one of the businesses, that business will give them a clue on what item they are supposed to find. One a participant thinks they’ve found the item they can confirm with the business and get their card punched.
Karen Senn, manager of scavenger hunt participant Milky Moo’s, said that the scavenger hunt always brings a big crowd downtown.
“It’s been really big,” Senn said. “We’ll usually have a big crowd trying to find the item. I think one guy proposed during one of the scavenger hunts one year.”
The event will be held downtown from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must be 16 or older. No purchase is necessary to participate.
