The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans scored early and often in their 52-33 win over Carroll of Ozark on Tuesday evening in Ozark.
The win for the Trojans improves their record on the season to 22-5.
“They played well as a team,” said Trojans head coach Dyneshia Jones. “We took advantage of the turnovers by Carroll and scored a lot of fast-break points.”
The Trojans had just five players get on the scoreboard on Tuesday night. Charles Henderson had two players finish in double figures, led by Tatyana Siler who finished with 19 points. Niaira Jones scored 15 while Maori Davenport had 12.
The first quarter saw the Trojans gain an early lead before taking a 17-10 lead into the second quarter. Jones scored nine of the Trojans 17 points in the quarter, three of which came from behind the arc.
In the second quarter, the Trojans held the Eagles to just six points, two of which came at the free throw line. The Trojans used their defense to help the offense. They scored 13 points in the quarter to stretch their lead to 30-16 heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Trojans defense continued to hold the Eagles down in the second half. They allowed just 17 second half points compared to 22 by the Trojans. Davenport and Siler each scored nine of their points in the second half.
The Trojans will close out the regular season on Friday when they travel to take on Dothan. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Even with a stellar record, Jones and the Trojans don’t plan to take it easy heading into the area tournament.
“I wish there was a certain thing called a perfect game,” Jones said. “With me, I feel there is always room for improvement every game. I just want them to give it their all every second on the court with no regrets.
