The Pike County Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season with a 49-39 win over Headland on Friday.

The win gives the Bulldogs a 17-6 record heading into next week’s area tournament.

“I think the team has played well over the course of three weeks,” Bulldogs head coach Doug Holland said. “The team has played well closing out the regular season.”

The Bulldogs were able to score 24 third quarter points that proved to be the difference against the Rams.

The Bulldogs finished with two players in double figures: Juhmir Lampley, who finished with 17, and Jahzarian Lampley, who had 15. Andres Burney finished with eight points and Markis Harris had four.

The Bulldogs scored just six first quarter points and went into the second trailing 14-6. The Bulldogs added 10 more points in the second and went into halftime trailing 23-16.

The Bulldogs scored 24 points in the third period, compared to just seven by the Rams. Juhmir Lampley scored 11 points in the quarter and the Bulldogs went into the game’s final quarter leading 40-30.

Jahzarian Lampley tallied six fourth quarter points and the Bulldogs were able to pull out the win.

The Bulldogs will now begin to prepare for the area tournament in Daleville beginning next Thursday when they take on Providence beginning at 6 p.m.
