The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans claimed the Class 5A Area 4 Tournament championship on Wednesday with a 51-37 win over Brew Tech.

The Lady Trojans grabbed an early lead and outscored the Rams in all four quarters.

“It was a fight to the finish,” said Trojans head coach Dyneshia Jones. “They have a good player and a bunch of role players. We are a resilient team, and they don’t give up.”

The Trojans jumped out to an early 16-10 lead heading into the second quarter after Whittaka Lowery gave the Trojans a quick six points.

The lead mushroomed to 28-19 at the half. Tatyana Siler gave the Trojans 10 first half points.

The Trojans continued to out score the Rams in the second half and rolled to the 14 point win. Maori Davenport led the way scoring 15 second half points.

In the end the Trojans finished with two players scoring in double digits: Davenport who finished with 21 and Siler who finished with 14. Lowery finished with eight points, and Alasia Thomas had six.

The Trojans on Monday secured a spot in the upcoming regionals, but winning the area crown makes it that much sweeter. Now the Trojans will turn their sights on the future.

“We need to stay hungry and take things one game at a time,” Jones said.

The boys’ season came to an end on Wednesday evening when they fell to the same Brew Tech Rams 68-43.

“We are a way better team that we displayed tonight,” said head coach Shelby Tuck. “We faced some adversity early in the game with foul trouble and we could never regain any momentum.”

Josh Roberts fouled out for the Trojans.

“We didn’t make the necessary stops that we needed to make,” Tuck said. “I have to do a better job as a coach. We will take the positives and grow.”

Jalen Tuck led the Trojans with 14 points, while Kelshun Campbell finished with 10.

The Trojans end the season with a 12-10 record.

“We took steps this season not as many as I would have liked for us to, but we have the offseason to develop athletes and grow as a program,” Tuck said.
