A quick-developing microburst caused damage in Goshen Thursday night with winds of up to 60 miles per hour.

EMA Director Jeanna Barnes said the microburst knocked down several trees and caused some power outages due to trees falling on lines.

There was also some structural damage Barnes said, but no homes were destroyed.

“One family had an out building that was destroyed and there was some roof damage, but nobody was hurt and no homes were destroyed,” Barnes said.

Barnes said the way microbursts form causes a wider damage area than a typical tornado.

“With a microburst, the damage is going to be more widespread,” Barnes said. “You’re going to have a wider area of damage. Trees will be knocked down in every direction. If you drop a drop of water into a cup it will have a ripple effect; that’s what a microburst will do.”
