“I scream, you scream. We all scream for ice cream.”
Sarah Fleshman laughingly remembered the little “ditty” that she recited as a child waiting for ice cream to freeze in the hand-cranked ice cream freezer.
“When the ice cream was finally ready, it was such a treat,” said Fleshman, who is a resident at Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center.
And, the treat was nothing lesser Wednesday afternoon, when Hospice Compassus of Troy hosted an ice cream party for the residents at Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Amanda Royal, director of clinical services at Hospice Compassus of Troy, said the ice cream party was for the residents and the staff of TH&R in an effort to put a friendly and familiar face on Hospice Compassus of Troy.
“We want to shed a light on who we are,” Royal said. “Hospice is not about death and gloom. It’s about providing the highest quality of care while meeting and serving the needs of our patients and their families.”
Royal said putting a familiar face on Hospice Compassus of Troy will make patients more comfortable if Compassus services are needed.
“Perhaps, if our services are needed by any of the residents, they might remember us,” she said.
Jeanette Dawkins, TH&R activities director, said the residents and staff enjoyed the ice cream party and the residents especially enjoyed the visit from Milky Moo’s friendly cow.
“We appreciate Hospice Compassus of Troy thinking of us and spending time with our residents,” Dawkins said. “They enjoy having visitors. It really brightens their day. We thank all of those who made this day special for our residents.”
