Pike Lib hosting camp

Pike Liberal Arts will host a two-day basketball camp at the schools gymnasium on Monday and Tuesday.
The camp will be open for both boys and girls between the ages of six and 12.
First year girls varsity basketball coach Chris Garner got the idea of doing a summer camp from his days at Sparta Academy and he is bringing it to Pike.
“The camp helps spur interest in basketball,” Garner said. “I know a lot of people like to play one sport and I know that Troy is a baseball town, but there are some good athletes that can play multiple sports. I am trying to spur the interest of the elementary kids to come out and play and not just concentrate on one sport.”
The camp will feature heavy work on fundamentals with the coaches teaching the basics of the game.
“That’s all you can really do with children between six and 12,” Garner said. “You start with six-year olds and you try to start them fundamentally and then polish the 11 and 12-year-olds.”
The two-day camp will cost $50 per participant and each child is urged to bring their own basketball if possible. The camp will run from 9 a.m. through noon.
To register you can contact Garner at 251-227-3496. The final day to register for the camp is Saturday.
