The City of Troy will hold it’s first ever “Back to School Bash” on the Square this weekend, and officials are already planning to make it an annual event.
Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy said the event provides fun festivities for the kids as they get acclimated to returning to school.
“We will have face painting, a petting zoo, popcorn and snow cones and a photo booth,” Windham said. “T-Roy and the Troy University cheerleaders will also be there for visits and pictures.”
Windham said the event will also be a safety event.
“The event will include a fingerprint and ID kit for children and a safety seat checkup for car seats sponsored by the Troy Police Department,” Windham said. “The fingerprint and ID kits will be provided by Country Financial.”
Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said the child ID kit is for parents to keep in case of an emergency.
“The child ID kit is a small kit that has a place for each individual finger,” Barr said. “Once you complete that, they can put that in a safe place in their home. Fingerprints will never change. Hopefully they’ll never need it.”
While the fingerprints last, Barr said parents should update their child’s photo every 6 to 12 months to keep it up to date with changing facial features.
While the kids are having fun, parents will be able to take a moment to relax.
“As we all know, back to school time can be a bit stressful for parents, so Healing Touch will host a relaxation station providing them with neck and shoulder massages,” Windham said.
The event is free for all children ages12 and under with no charges for any of the activities.
All activities will be on the Square Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
