“Going to the dogs” is usually not a good thing, but when it’s the Pike Animal Shelter’s “Going to the Dogs” yard sale, it’s a good thing for bargain hunters, as well as for the dogs.

The scramble for the “trash to treasures” items will begin at 7 a.m. next to Sears and KFC on Saturday, May 2 and not one minute before.

Donna Schubert, organization Founders chair, said the “Going to the Dogs” yard sale is basically a household and office items sale.

“All of the volunteers with the Pike Animal Shelter have had the best time with this sale,” Schubert said. “It’s been a lot of fun to gather the items for the sale, and we’ve got a wide variety of really nice items, including a complete patio set with a bar and stools with cushions. It will be a great bargain.”

Other great bargains that will be “for sale” are an oak dining table and other household furniture, rugs, televisions, printers, lamps, office items, Christmas trees, a mower, artwork and miscellaneous items.

“We’ll also have some baked goods for sale, so it will be a good yard sale and a lot of fun, too,” Schubert said. “We invite everyone to come out and shop for bargains and support the Pike Animal Shelter’s fundraising efforts.”

The proceeds from the “Going to the Dogs” yard sale will do exactly that – go the dogs.

The Pike Animal Shelter’s plans are to build a state-of-the-art animal shelter in Pike County. An acre of land on the Henderson Highway has been donated to the Pike Animal Shelter so the site is set and the fundraising is moving ahead at a steady pace.

“We’ve raised $57,000 so far and we continue to work toward our goal,” Schubert said. “The Pike Animal Shelter participated in TroyFest over the weekend and received several hundred dollars in donations. We also had several adoptable dogs from the Troy Animal Shelter there in hopes that they would be adopted. And, the coolest thing about TroyFest was that two puppies and two large dogs now have homes.

“What was so exciting about the adoptions was that the two large dogs were hard to place animals. To know that they now have a home is a wonderful thought.”
