The Troy Arts Council will present the Charles Henderson High School Choir in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Emporium on Walnut Street in downtown Troy.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Dr. John Jinright, TAC presenter chair, said, each year, the Troy Arts Council showcases a musical group from one of the city or county schools. The TAC is proud to shine the spotlight on the award-winning CHHS choir that is directed by Calvin Scott.

“It will be amazing to hear this outstanding high school choir in such a beautiful building with such amazing acoustics,” Jinright said.

“The CHHS Choir went to New York last year and brought back several awards. So we can expect a great performance Thursday night at The Emporium.”

Jinright said there are several choral groups at local schools and hopes are that these groups will take advantage of the opportunity to attend this concert.

Following the CHHS Choir performance, there are two performances remaining on the Troy Arts Council’s 2017-2018 performance season.

Semi Toned, a 12-man British group from Exeter University in Great Britain will be in concert April 10 at the Claudia Crosby Theater.

“Semi Toned is the top amateur choir in Western Europe,” Jinright said. “They do a lot of pop, R&B and 1970s and ’80s songs and they are all done a cappella. This is something entirely new for the Troy Art Council and it should be a fantastic performance. Semi Toned has won the Voice Festival in the UK so you know they have to be good.”

The Southeast Alabama Community Band is on the TAC’s calendar this spring.

Everyone is invited to support the CHHS Choir with their presence Thursday night at The Emporium and encouraged to make plans to be in attendance for Semi Toned and the SEAC Band performance in the spring.
