Despite storms forcing a rescheduling of the City of Troy’s first ever “Cruise-In,” the event organizers and participants still deemed it a success.

“It was a good way to relax and renew with old acquaintances,” said Art McKnatt, a Cruise-In participant and Troy native. “I’m 72 years old and I’ve been a car guy since I was 15.”

Local car enthusiasts enjoyed having the event Saturday so nearby.

“I’ve been to a lot of things of this sort,” McKnatt said. He said he enjoyed “the fact that it was on our own Square.”

“We had shade,” McKnatt said. “We had an excellent host. She made everyone feel very welcome … I saw guys that is hadn’t seen in a while, and I knew I would,” McKnatt said. “It was just a really easy, laidback day.”

McKnatt showed off one of the 30 cars on display representing a wide variety of styles and eras.

“The vehicles ranged from a 1948 Chevy Pick Up to a new Corvette,” said Leigh Anne Windham, community engagement and special projects coordinator for the City of Troy.

Unlike some car shows, there were no winners at this event, but the participants did take home prizes.

“Cruise-Ins are not judged so there were no winners,” Windham said. “But each participant received a goodie bag. And we gave out door prizes during the event.”

Local musician Lenny Trawick also performed during the event.

“I hope they do it again,” McKnatt said. “This morning before I left home I even wrote the mayor a letter, thanking him.”

McKnatt’s hopes will soon become a reality –the City of Troy is planning to host another Cruise-In for this upcoming Fall.
