The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans knocked off the Goshen Eagles in four sets 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23 on Thursday night in Troy.
The win for the Trojans brings their record on the season to 4-5, while the Eagles drop to 5-5.
“Coach (Amy) Warrick runs a great program,” said Charles Henderson head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. “Last year when we played them we didn’t compete. Our goal is to compete every night. Hannah Calhoun is an outstanding Libero. Kate Warrick did a great job and Olivia Kyzar did a great job running their offense. We have to play good teams to get better and we played a really good team.”
Each game was a tight contest. In the first two games, neither team led by more than three points.
After Charles Henderson won the third game by six points, the fourth and final game once again went down to the wire with both teams trading points for much of the contest.
The Trojans went into this match looking to become more aggressive. Kirkpatrick thought his team did a good job of that on Thursday.
“We’ve told our team that in order for us to win, we have to swing,” Kirkpatrick said. “Tonight we attacked the ball at a pretty high level. We kept swinging even when things were going bad. That’s what we have been trying to get through to them the whole year so far.”
Mykyia Milton finished the match with 12 kills and three aces. Sydney Watson had nine kills and two aces. Samira Moore had seven kills and one ace. Reece Moore, Anyla Shipman and Tanner Moore all had four kills each.
For the Eagles, Olivia Kyzar finished with two aces, 13 assists and seven digs. Molly Wares finished with 10 digs, four points scored, five kills and one block. Kate Warrick finished the match with one ace, eight points scored, five kills, 12 assists and two blocks.
Hannah Calhoun finished with 11 points scored, one kill, one assist and 24 digs.
“I think Charles Henderson played really well and did a good job keeping us off balance,” said Eagle head coach Amy Warrick.
The Trojans will return to action this Saturday when they host the Trojan Classic. The Eagles will host the Zion Chapel Rebels on Tuesday.
