When the cotton fields whiten and peanuts are boiling in the pot, that’s a sure sign that it’s county fair time. And nowhere is the county fair more anxiously awaited than in Pike County.

The Pike County Fair will open Tuesday night, October 2, and run through Saturday, October 6.

Homer Homann, president of the sponsoring Troy Shrine Club, said this year’s county fair will feature the traditional midway thrills and chills and also something new and exciting.

“New on the midway this year, will be the Dominguez Brothers Motorcycle Globe Act,” Homann said. “Three brothers will ride motorcycles inside a globe. They will ride up and down and around at high speeds, narrowly missing each other. The brothers are amazing and their act is exciting. People of all ages will be well entertained by the Dominguez brothers.”

Homann said, also on the Midway will be an aerial act that will have the audience holding its collective breath as artists perform on the high wire.

There will be no additional charge for the Dominguez brothers and aerial acts nor will there be for the outstanding lineup of entertainment at the Pike County Fair Pavilion.

“As always, we will have a great lineup of entertainment,” Homann said. “On Tuesday night, we will have the Benton Brothers. On Wednesday night, the SheBANG!  Cloggers and Johnny Barron and the Waterfall Children’s Band Showcase will take center stage.”

Thursday night the ever-popular Alcazar Band from Montgomery and the Lighthouse String Ensemble will be the featured entertainment. Johnny Barrow and his musically talented kids will be back on Friday night.

Saturday night will feature the big time band, Perfection and Grace, with music for people of all ages.

Homann said the events at the Cattle Barn always attract a lot of interest.

In the barn will be cows, horses, mules, goats, pigs, poultry, rabbits and maybe a surprise or two.

Admission to the Pike County Fair is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6-11. Armbands that allow unlimited rides all night on one night are available for presale at $20 each at the Troy Bank & Trust main offices in Troy, Brundidge and Ariton, the Pizza Palace in Brundidge and the Farmers Exchange in Louisville.

The fair promoters will offer armbands at a two-for-one price on Wednesday night only. Those armbands will be available on the midway only.

The gates of the Pike County Fair will open at 6 p.m. nightly.
