The Charles Henderson Trojans return from their bye week tomorrow night to take on the Greenville Tigers.

The Trojans will make the hour-long trip to Greenville to take on the 4-1 Tigers.

CHHS limped into their off week with a 1-3 overall record after they fell to Beauregard on homecoming 41-26. The players used their time to get back to fundamental work.

“We went to work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week,” said head coach Brad McCoy. “I think we got healed up in a few areas. We had a few kids banged up from the week before. We worked on ourselves a lot, trying to improve fundamentally.”

The Trojans hoped to head into their bye week on a high note, but two losses by a combined 77 points has the Trojans looking for answers.

“A lot of times you see a bye week in the middle,” McCoy said. “We were thinking it could certainly be to our advantage to do it between Beauregard and Greenville. It didn’t turn out in our favor with the standpoint of coming off a loss, but it is what it is and I think it did come at a welcome time for the kids.”

Bye weeks are also a time for coaches to make personnel changes. Despite the 1-3 start, McCoy didn’t make drastic changes over the break.

“We’re not changing anything major,” McCoy said. “We looked to where we needed to make some improvement and make a difference. I think we have done that in a couple spots.”
The Trojans will play in five straight games to close out the season, including four straight region games. To secure a spot in the playoffs, the Trojans are going to have to finish in the top four in region 2. They are currently tied for third with Carroll and Tallassee.

“You have to get wins,” McCoy said. “This football team has to get wins for us to consider the playoffs. Our schedule doesn’t get any easier. When you keep track of the teams in our regions, there are no gimmes.”

Greenville will be the Trojans’ first road block. The Tigers are also coming off a bye week, but the week prior they knocked off region foe Rehobeth to pick up their fourth win of the year and their third in a row.

“They have a great quarterback,” McCoy said. “The Posey kid (Javion Posey) is unbelievable and he is a great runner. He is great option guy and he can throw the ball. They are not a deep threat team; they like to put the ball on the perimeter and give it to their playmakers. Greenville is who Greenville is. They’re always athletic and they’re always big and fast.”

The Trojans got the better of the Tigers a year ago when they defeated Greenville 27-24 in Troy.
