A Brundidge man fled from police Wednesday up and down U.S. Highway 231 before finally being arrested on multiple felony charges.

Police spotted Frank Miller Freeman III, 27, driving southbound on U.S. Highway 231 in a black Chevrolet Avalanche near Walnut Creek at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers recognized Freeman, who had outstanding warrants for first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery, both Class A Felonies.

“Officers attempted to stop Freeman, but he refused and continued southbound,” said Troy Police Chief Randall Barr. “Freeman pulled into the parking lot of a gas station like he was going to surrender but then sped off again, this time travelling northbound on U.S. 231.”

As units approached from the north to assist in the pursuit, Freeman turned around again and headed back south. He was finally stopped by police and taken into custody near South Alabama Electric Cooperative. Officers recovered a handgun, cocaine and marijuana from Freeman’s vehicle.

Freeman is one of two men suspected of entering an occupied residence in the 200 block of John. M. Long Drive in the early morning hours of July 13 armed with handguns. Electronic items and the victim’s wallet were taken. The victim was not injured.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Freeman now faces an additional Class D Felony charge of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and several misdemeanors including second-degree possession of marijuana, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and carrying a pistol without a license.

The Class A Felonies are each punishable by 20 years to life in prison and the Class D Felony is punishable by one to five years in prison.

Freeman’s total bond has been set at $60,000 on the robbery and burglary charges. Bond on the additional charges has not yet been set at this time. He was being held in the Troy City Jail until warrants are obtained for the new charges, at which time he will be transported to the Pike County Jail.

The robbery and burglary case in the 200 block of John M. Long Drive remains under investigation by the Troy Police Department. Additional arrests are anticipated.
