To say a good time was had by all would be an understatement.

Thanks to the “corny” antics of Pastor Pugh Hopper, a.k.a the Rev. Ed Shirley, the farmers who attended the Farmers Appreciation Supper at Brundidge Station Monday night had a chance to put their “mules” in the barn and just sit back and enjoy a good laugh and a supper fit for a farmer.

The Farmers Appreciation Supper was an event of the 27th Annual Peanut Butter Festival and an effort to bring back some of the original events of the harvest and heritage celebration.

Randy Ross, who served as president of the sponsoring Brundidge Historical Society during its formative years, said the festival was organized as an effort to pay tribute to the agricultural community and the role that it played during the heydays of the peanut butter mills.

“Twenty-seven years ago, the BHS began the Peanut Butter Festival as a way to pay tribute to our farmers and the farming community,” Ross said. “Tonight is a way to continuing saying thank you.”

Supper was prepared by Troy Bank & Trust with “The Only Grill Team You’ll Ever Need” – Bob Bills, Paul Watkins, Steve Laney and Ronnie Mobley – doing the honors.

Dixie Shehane, SVP Branch Manager TB&T, said it was an honor to have an opportunity to let farmers know, in some small way, how much they are appreciated.

“We wish every farmer could have been here tonight so we could tell them personally how much they are appreciated,” Shehane said. “But we understand how important it is for farmers to get their crops in ahead of the rain.”
