A late Trojan push sent the game into overtime, but an Austin Peay three-pointer handed Troy a 79-74 loss.

With the loss, the Trojans fall to 3-4 on the year.

Javon Johnson got off to a quick start for the Trojans, scoring seven of Troy’s first 12. Troy fell behind 16-12 in the game’s first seven minutes before rallying back to the tie the game at 18.

From that point on the Trojans never trailed the rest of the opening half and led by as many as seven points.

The Trojans went into the break holding a 31-24 lead over the Governors.

Johnson’s seven points led the Trojans in the opening half. Alex Hicks had a pair of dunks in the final minutes to help stretch Troy’s lead heading into half time.

Both teams shot below 35 percent in the first half and combined to make 7 of the combined 31 three-point attempts.

The Governors battled back and retook the lead near the 15:20 mark of the second half.

The lead was short lived. The Trojans regained the lead at 47-46 with 11:23 remaining.

The Trojans kept the lead until a turnover led to an easy layup by Dayton Gumm, giving the Governors a 63-62 lead with 1:22 remaining.

A flagrant 1 foul by Jordon Varnado allowed the Governors to push their lead to five with 57 seconds remaining.

Darian Adams brought the Trojans back to within two after making a basket while being fouled. He went to the free throw line and finished off the and one for an old-fashioned three-point play.

The Trojans had one final chance with 16 seconds remaining after the defense forced a jump ball. Javon Johnson tipped in a missed shot with just a few seconds remaining, pushing the game into overtime tied at 67.

The Trojans took a one-point lead with less than 1:00 minute remaining, but a late three by Zach Glotta sealed the deal for the Governors’.

Johnson and Varnado led the way for the Trojans with 14 points, while Hicks finished with 12 and Adams with 11.

The Trojans will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida Sate beginning at 7 p.m.
