Patriots drop two to Evangel

The Pike Liberal Arts boys and girls’ basketball teams participated in the Pepsi Classic at Macon East on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Patriots began their day with a 47-30 loss to Evangel in game one of the tournament. The boys finished off the early session with a 49-40 loss to Evangel.
The Patriots entered the final quarter down four, but were able to crawl back to within one with 7:12 remaining in the game.
The Patriots were outscored in three of the quarters on Friday afternoon, including the fourth quarter when Evangel outscored Pike Liberal Arts 18-13.
The Patriots found themselves in an early deficit when they scored just four points in the opening quarter and went into the second trailing 14-4.
The Patriots got back in the game in the second quarter by outscoring Evangel 12-5 and went into the locker room at halftime trailing 19-16.
Jade Sikes was the lone Patriots to score in double figures with 10 points. Javon Christian finished with nine points, while Max Copeland had seven.
The Lady Patriots were outscored in three of the four quarters on Friday afternoon. They were outscored in the opening half and went into the locker room at halftime trailing 23-21.
The Lady Patriots mustered nine points in the second half, two of which came in the third quarter. After entering the fourth quarter down 33-23, Evangel doubled up the Patriots in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The Lady Patriots had seven players score in the loss. Shelby Renfroe led the way with 12 points, while Sarah Todd Floyd at six and Mary Michael Hussey at 4.
