The Charles Henderson High girls basketball team remained undefeated with a 69-13 beatdown over Andalusia Monday night, while the boys varsity team dominated the Bulldogs 55-29 in the nightcap.

The Lady Trojans, ranked No. 1 in the first Class 5A Alabama Sports Writers Association poll last week improved to 11-0, while the boys improved to 8-5.

Tatyana Siler led all CHHS scorers with 16 points, Niaira Jones added 15, Samira Moore and Kayla Grant scored 14 points each, Makala Hobdy had eight while Reece Moore scored two points.

CHHS led 25-2 at the end of the first quarter, 50-6 at halftime and 56-9 after three periods before finishing with the 69-13 victory.

“I was very proud of the girls,” said CHHS Lady Trojans head Coach Dyneshia Jones. “They ran the offense well but I thought we played okay defense. I thought we played pretty good  tonight.”

The CHHS girls travel to Pike County High in Brundidge on Tuesday for a battle with the Lady Bulldogs.

“We’ve just got to go down there and play Charles Henderson basketball, and we should be fine,” said Coach Jones.

In the last game of the evening the boys varsity team ran away with a 55-29 win as Marcus Grant scored 11 to lead the Trojans, Josh Foster had 10, Keonte Brantley and Terrell Sistruck scored eight points each, Cortez Lee added six, Keith Wheeler four, while Devin Parker, Bradley Caldwell and Jay Taylor scored three points apiece.

The Trojans led 14-6 after one quarter, 33-14 at the half, 48-22 after three quarters, and remained strong in the final quarter for the 55-29 win over Andalusia.

“We played Saturday and did not come with a lot of energy, so that was the message to our guys,” said head coach Doug Branson. “We’ve played a lot of games in a short amount of time, but I really thought they responded to the challenge today. I thought we executed early and was able to get a lead, and then we just kind of sustained that throughout the game. I thought the key word of the night would be ‘execute.’ I thought we did that to a better degree than what we have done previously.”

The boys will also take on Pike County High Tuesday in Brundidge, following the girls game.

“They’ll be ready for us coming down there,” said Branson. “We’re just eight or nine miles apart, it’s an in-county game, all of these kids have always played against each other, so they are familiar with each other. Pike County will be ready. I know they have beat some quality opponents already this year, so it will be a grind a tough matchup but we are going to go down there and do the best we can.”

The PCHS boys are ranked No. 8 in the state in Class 3A in the first ASWA poll, while the CHHS boys are ranked No. 6.
