The Pike County Bulldogs withstood a furious Charles Henderson comeback attempt in a 45-41 win over the Charles Henderson Trojans on Tuesday night.

It was a battle of two top-10 teams between the Bulldogs and Trojans. The Bulldogs were able to get the better of their rivals.

“Our type of game,” said Bulldogs head coach Fred Holland. “Low scoring game. I told them I feel like we had a good chance tonight playing in our building. Charles Henderson has a really good team and I feel like we have a good team too.”

The Trojans led only briefly on Tuesday night. With the Trojans up 11-8, the Bulldogs embarked on a 15-0 run that ran into the second quarter. By the end of the run the Bulldogs held a 23-13 lead.

“That’s what we talk about, starting fast,” Holland said. “The last couple of games we started kind of slow (like) in the tournament in Elba. I feel like if we start fast we have a chance to win.”

The Trojans crawled back to within a single possession with just minutes remaining. Kevon Harris hit two big free throws with :19 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Bulldogs.

Andres Burney led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Harris finished with 11. Josh Foster led the Trojans with 12 points, while Keith Wheeler had 11.

“We had chances,” said Trojan head coach Doug Branson. “The kids fought hard. We played the night before. I played the majority of the starters a little more minutes than they had to play in the last two weeks. No excuses, Pike County came in there ready to play. They played well and moved the basketball.”

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans got the best of the Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night. They knocked off their cross-country rival 52-15.

Senior Maori Davenport received the news she didn’t want to hear earlier in the day when she found out she would remain ineligiable the remainder of the season. Despite the bad news, the Trojans battled to get another win.

“Basketball takes your mind off things,” said head coach Dyneshia Jones. “A win is a great. It’s always great to win a basketball game.”

The win on Thursday marked their 10^th straight without Davenport on the court.

“It was hard for them at the beginning,” Jones said. “They know they are still fighting for Maori and they love her. She is part of the team, so they are going to continue play as if she was out there with us.”
Samira Moore led the way for the Lady Trojans with 28 points. Precious Vazniain led the Bulldogs with 12 points.
