Following a safety work session Tuesday morning, the Brundidge City Council joined city employees for a Christmas luncheon and then held its regular council meeting at 1:30 p.m. at Brundidge Station.

The first item on the agenda was a discussion of a proposed splash pad for the city. However, Mayor Isabell Boyd said the discussion would be tabled until the next council meeting. The council will then discuss whether to spend $200,000 of city funds to install a splash pad on city property. The city has twice applied for Community Development Block Grants to fund a splash pad park but neither application has been approved.

In other business, the council discussed the January 1, 2019 council meeting. That date being a holiday, the council voted to forego the meeting. The council’s next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Brundidge City Hall.

In an update on the city’s service provided by Haynes Ambulance Service, Boyd said a representative from Haynes was unable to attend the meeting but will be in attendance at the January 15 meeting. Concern has been expressed by city citizen about the delay of Haynes’ response time.

Britt Thomas, city manager, said the city audit has been completed and a report will be issued in February. He expressed appreciation for the time and effort city employees have dedicated to preparing for the audit.

He also informed the council that preparations are being made to paint the water tank at Walmart.

Boyd suggested that lights be added to the walking trail at Ramage Park. However, Thomas said the cost of installing lights could be high and there is a lighted walking track at the high school.

“It should not be one or the other; it should be both,” Boyd said.

Boyd said the city’s Christmas parade was a tremendous success and expressed appreciation to the Brundidge Business Association for its sponsorship.

“A lot of children were involved and, when children participate, their parents attend and that bring people to town,” she said.

The next council meeting will be at 6 p.m. on January 15, 2019 at Brundidge City Hall.
