The Charles Henderson boy’s basketball team had to follow up what was an exciting return by Lady Trojan Maori Davenport on Friday night. They finished up a Charles Henderson sweep with a 48-32 win over Carroll on Friday night in Troy.
The win for the Trojans brings them to 3-0 in area play.
“It was really nice to get a win,” said head coach Doug Branson. “I think our guys were as amped us as anybody. Today was chaotic for everyone. When you have national media coming in and everyone is getting interviewed, you don’t know how the guys are going to react. The crowd was awesome and our guys responded. We settled down a little bit.”
The Trojans stormed out a 9-2 lead early on Friday night before going into he second up 9-5. Carroll quickly battled back to even the game at nine before the Trojans closed out the first half on an 11-4. They went into the locker room at halftime leading 20-13.
The Eagles got the game back to within two twice in the third quarter, but never were able to climb all the way back. The Trojans went into the fourth quarter holding a 14-point lead at 39-25.
The Trojans never allowed the Eagles to get close in the fourth. They closed out the game by holding the Eagles to seven fourth quarter points.
Keonte Brantley led the Trojans with 21 points, while Terrell Sistrunk finished with 12.
With the win the Trojans close out the first half of area play undefeated. Now they they will have to play the second half largely on the road.
“We are halfway there,” Branson said. “Now we have to go on the road against Carroll, who will shoot it better at their place and against Greenville, who will do the same thing. Love the position we are in, now we have to continue to grind and make sure we get to where we want to be.”
The Trojans will host Love Joy High School this afternoon.
