Troy police responded to the report of a suspicious package Tuesday evening at a residence on Surry Avenue.
Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said there was no threat made, but the police department still took precautions as they always do with any report of a suspicious package.
“We responded to a package placed beside somebody’s mailbox,” Barr said. “With any suspicious package call, we go and there’s a certain way we respond to that to check and make sure there are no explosives or drugs. We do that out of an abundance of caution. It’s not that we believe there was anything there, but the nature of the call and we’ve got that capability to make sure it is safe.”
Barr said that section of the neighborhood was blocked off while officers investigated to make sure there was no danger. Once the package was determined to be safe, the road was opened back up.
