Bulldogs claims area title with win over Houston Academy

The Pike County Bulldogs took home the Class 3A Area 4 championship on Friday night when they knocked off host Houston Academy 35-13.

Pike County avenged their only area loss of the season on Friday night. The Bulldogs fell at the buzzer to Houston Academy earlier this season.

The win for the Bulldogs clinches a home sub-regional game against the runner-up of Area 3 on either Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Andres Burney finished the game in double-double fashion when he scored 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Jaidyn Wilson led the Bulldogs in points when he finished with 14 points, while hauling in six rebounds. Amaghie Lampley finished with six points, while Kevon Harris had three.

After Houston Academy and Pike County played to a 6-6 tie after the first quarter, the Bulldogs gained a little separation when they outscored Houston Academy 12-6 in the second quarter. Wilson scored seven of his points in the quarter and the Bulldogs took an 18-11 lead into halftime.

The Bulldog defense stifled Houston Academy, holding them to just two second-half points. The Bulldogs scored 17 second-half points to put the game the away.
