Charles Henderson senior Maori Davenport had her named left off the roster of the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game game earlier this month, but earlier this week the star basketball player learned she will be heading to the 2019 Jordan Brand Classic in Las Vegas on April 20.

Davenport will be one of three total players from the state of Alabama to make the trip to Las Vegas. Davenport will join Pleasant Home’s River Baldwin as well as the reigning Mr. Basketball Award winner Trendon Watford, of Mountain Brook.

It was a season of adversity for the Rutgers signee. Davenport played in 16 games in her senior season after the Alabama High School Athletic Association ruled her ineligible for receiving payment by USA Basketball for her time on Team USA’s U18 basketball team last summer.

Davenport’s case received national attention when ESPN’s Jay Bilas and NBA players including Chris Paul, came to Davenport’s defense.

Davenport, along with her mother, made an appearance on Good Morning America.

After a lawsuit was filed by the Davenport family, a restraining order was issued, allowing Davenport to play.

Davenport’s returned brought more national attention as ESPN brought cameras to shoot portions of Davenport’s warmup and return in front of a packed gymnasium.

Davenport finished the season scoring nearly 14 points per game with 10 rebounds.

The Jordan Brand Classic is held at T-Mobile Arena. Participants are routinely selected from top 100 players as ranked by various scouting services.

Davenport will attend and play basketball at Rutgers University.
