Trojans pick up wins against Luverne and Pleasant Home

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans got off a 2-0 start in the Straughn Tournament on Friday when they picked up a 12-0 win over Luverne and a 5-2 win over Pleasant Home.
The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans scored in all three innings in game one’s win over Luverne.
After scoring three runs in the top of the first, the Trojans scored nine over the next two to coast to the 12-0 win.
Emma Kirkpatrick got the start for the Trojans. Kirkpatrick allowed two hits and struck out three before giving way to Sadie Leverette, who pitched one inning for the Trojans.
The Trojans finished with seven hits led by Kirkpatrick, who went 2-2 with four RBI. Heather Maxwell, Hannah Hughes, Madison Stewart, Whittaka Lowery and Graci Williams all had one hit.
The Trojans had a two-run double by Kirkpatrick and an RBI groundout by Williams and the Trojans earned the early 3-0 lead.
The lead expanded to 8-0 in the second inning. Kirkpatrick doubled to right to drive in both Maxwell and Stella Gilbreath. Stewart singled and Williams drove in the final two with a double to left.
In what would be the final inning of the contest, the Trojans scored four more runs. Mykyia Milton grounded into a fielder’s choice to drive in the first run of the inning. Graci Sneed reached safely on an error that allowed Emily Hughes to score. AJ May drove in the final two runs when she reached on another Tiger error.
The Lady Trojans rode another early lead to a win in game two over Pleasant Home. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Trojans rattled of five-straight runs.
Sydni Garrett got the start for the Trojans. The senior pitched all four innings of the game and surrendered two total runs, one earned on four hits. She struck out seven.
The Trojans finished game two with five hits by Lowery, Maxwell, Kirkpatrick, Garrett and Williams.
Kirkpatrick doubled in Lowery for the Trojans’ first run. The Trojans then got RBI singles by Garrett and Williams to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead.
The Trojans had an RBI double by Maxwell and an RBI single in the second to give the Trojans a 5-1 lead.
The Trojans will continue play in the Straughn Tournament on Saturday when they begin the single elimination portion of the tournament.
