The Troy City Schools Board of Education recognized teachers of the year Monday night from each of its three school systems.

“We want to honor these three outstanding teachers here of course, but we think we have the best teachers in the state of Alabama,” said Dr. Lee Hicks, superintendent.

“Kudos to you,” added board member Rhonda Pollard. “It’s a great recognition to be honored by your peers; it means you go above and beyond, and that means something .”

The whole board echoed Pollard’s and Hicks’ sentiments.

Jennifer Lindsey, art teacher at Troy Elementary School, was named TES teacher of the year.

Tiana McWhite, counselor at Charles Henderson Middle School, was recognized as CHMS teacher of the year.

Tina Lieb, head of the special education department at Charles Henderson High School, was named CHHS teacher of the year.

Hicks said all three of these teachers have impacted the lives of their students and their colleagues both in and outside the classroom.

Dr. Brock Kelley, CHHS principal, also announced that the school has written a $141,000 grant through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) that is hoping to have finalized soon. The grant would help to fund a program that would provide an opportunity for Troy residents ages 17 through 24 to receive workforce training through the high school.
