The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans began the Gulf Shores Tournament 0-2 on Monday afternoon when they fell to Oak Martin 5-4 and Houston Academy 9-7.

The Trojans fall to 8-8 overall with the two losses.

Emma Kirkpatrick got the start for the Trojans in game one. Kirkpatrick pitched two innings and surrendered five runs, two of which were earned runs. She allowed five hits and a walk, while striking out one.

Sydni Garrett pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and struck out two.

The Trojans scored two runs in the fourth inning to pull to within one run, but Oak Moutain slammed the door shut and preserved the one-run win.

The Trojans finished with five hits. Garrett went 2-2 while Kirkpatrick, Madison Stewart and Dakota Berry all had one hit.

The Trojans jumped on the board in the top of the first inning after Mykyia Milton scored on an error.

Oak Mountain answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Trojans, after a scoreless second inning, inched closer in the third when Graci Williams walked with the bases loaded to bring the Trojans to within one at 3-2.

Oak Mountain answered again in their half of the third when they scored two more runs to push their lead to three at 5-2.

The Trojans attempted to crawl back in their final at-bat. With Milton at third and Madison Cain at second, Kirkpatrick doubled to left to get the Trojans back to within one at 5-4. The Trojans never got any closer. Madison Stewart grounded out to shortstop to end the inning and threat.

A seven-run fourth inning wasn’t enough for the Trojans to overcome a 9-0 deficit in game two.

Sadie Leverette pitched 0.2 innings for the Trojans. Kirkpatrick and Garrett also got in the pitcher’s circle.

The Trojans finished with seven hits led by Kirkpatrick, who finished 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Heather Maxwell, Stewart, Williams, Stella Gillbreath and AJ May each had a hit.

The Trojans found themselves down nine early when they surrendered six runs in the first followed by three runs in the second.

In what turned out to be the final at-bat of the game, the Trojans scored seven runs in the fourth inning.

Gilbreath doubled in the first run on the inning. May followed up with an RBI single to to right field. Cain scored the third run on an error and Kirkpatrick drove in runs four and five on a single to center.

Stewart closed out the scoring with an inside the park home run to bring the score to 9-7.
