Six-year old Ben Price admits he was a little nervous, but you would never know it after he finished as one of just three 6-year olds to finish the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic.

The Crescent City Classic 10K is one of the oldest races in south and Price was one of over 20,000 runners attracted to the race in the Crescent City.

Price enjoyed his time running in New Orleans, but one particular dessert piqued his interest.

“I like New Orleans, especially beignets,” Price said. “Running with a lot of people was scary at the start, but they cheered me during the race. That was cool.”

Price made up the youngest age category of 14-year-olds and under. There were over 500 runners in the age category. Although most of the participants in the category were between 12 and 14 years of age, Price was one of three 6-year-olds.

Price started running at the age of three. He completed his first 5K road race, the Peanut Butter Race, when he was four, the same age as his older brother and sister, Will and Emily.

Will, Emily and their mother were on hand to help cheer on Ben during the race.

“I ran by mama and Will and Emily when we passed the hotel,” Price said. “They gave me a high-five when I ran by.”

Price has now completed almost a dozen races since his start as a 4-year old, but the Crescent City Classic was the longest. Despite all the success, Price enjoyed his time after the race when he got his hands one of those beignets.

“The best part was after the race,” Price said. “We ate coffee and beignets and people wanted to take their picture with me.”
