The Charles Henderson Trojans took home a championship on Thursday evening when the football team claimed the Wiregrass 7-on-7 championship at the Troy University practice fields.
The 11th annual tournament featured Charles Henderson along with Enterprise, Dothan, Park Crossing, Robert E. Lee, Jeff Davis, Andalusia, Samson and Greenville.
The Trojans knocked off Park Crossing in the championship. In all, the Trojans finished the tournament with a 7-1 record with their only loss coming against Dothan in the third game of pool play.
Quarterbacks Pooka Jones and Cam Foley split the reps throughout the day on Thursday.
“Our kids got a ton of practice reps today,” said Trojans head coach Brad McCoy. “This is a great way to end the month of June before the Fourth of July break. We have had a tremendous offseason up to this point and we hope the rest of the summer is no different.
The entire Trojan program was on hand at the event. Even though it was just the skill players playing on the field, the rest of the team was on hand to cheer on the Trojans.
“It was fun seeing this group compete on both sides of the ball,” McCoy said. “Offense and defense played together and really cheered each other on the whole day. All our lineman helped in doing jobs throughout the camp to make it run smoothly.”
The Trojans will pick things back up on July eighth when they will begin summer workouts for three weeks. They will begin final preparations on August when they begin fall camp.
