The Troy Trojans scored the first touchdown on Saturday, but then let up 42 unanswered points in their 42-10 loss to Missouri.

The Trojans (2-3) entered the game with five wins over Power 5 schools, the most in the Sun Belt Conference. They hoped to knock off Missouri for a second time, but they allowed over 400 yards for the third time this season and fell to the Tigers of the SEC. With the loss, the Trojans are 3-22 all-time against the Southeastern Conference and they are now 1-3 all-time against Missouri.

“We didn’t take advantage of some of the opportunities,” head coach Chip Lindsey said. “We missed some guys and missed a protection or two and just couldn’t get back in rhythm. Hats off to Missouri, they have a really good football team.”

The game couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for the Trojans. They took the game’s opening possession and scored the game’s first touchdown, capping off a 12-play drive. Quarterback Caleb Barker found receiver Khalil McClain for a 15-yard touchdown. It was the first time all season that an opponent scored on the Missouri defense in the opening quarter. The Tigers entered the game outscoring their opponents 58-0 in the first quarter.

The Trojans added a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter, but the offense struggled to get anything going.

Barker left the game late in the first half. Barker completed 15 of 26 passes for 92 yards. Gunnar Watson finished the game and completed five of his nine passes for 58 yards.

The Trojans failed to have a receiver gain 100 yards for the first time this season. Reggie Todd led the way with six catches for 44 yards. Kaylon Geiger added four catches for 22 yards.

On the defensive side, Carlton Martial finished with seven total tackles, 3.5 for a loss and he had 1.5 sacks.

The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday, October 17 when they play in-state rival South Alabama in Troy.
