Highland Home High School has been fined and placed on probation for one year for violating  eligibility rules according to the AHSAA on Thursday evening.

According to the AHSAA, Highland Home’s football team played an ineligible player, violating the Bona Fide Transfer rule.

Highland Home must forfeit all the games won that the ineligible player participated in. The Flying Squadron has forfeited it’s Class 2A Region 3 wins over Central Hayneville, Calhoun, Samson, Zion Chapel and Luverne. They also forfeit their non-region win over Verbena.

The Flying Squadron’s new record stands at 1-7 overall and 1-5 in region play.

The forfeited games affect Goshen’s chase for a region championship. The Eagles took on Highland Home on Thursday. A win over Highland Home and a loss by Luverne against Samson would have given Goshen the region championship. A Goshen win paired with a Luverne win would have forced a three-way tie.

Instead, because Highland Home had to forfeit their win against the Tigers, Luverne now sits at 8-0 overall and 6-0 in region play, giving them the region championship.
