Pike Liberal Arts student Cade Edwards will travel to Chase Field in Arizona later this month to compete in the fourth annual National Power Showcase Home Run Derby.
The event will take place at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks on November 15-17.
“I’m really excited. It’s an honor to go,” Edwards said. “They saw me hit in Cooper’s Town and my coach recommended me to them. It’s really exciting for me to go.”
Edwards spends much of his time either practicing or playing the game of baseball. The organizers of the event reached out to the Edwards family about the event and Cade couldn’t say no.
Edwards has a passion for the game of baseball and this event will allow him to showcase his talents in front of some top evaluators.
“It shows me to more people,” Edwards said. “It gives me more experience.
The event will feature some of the nation’s best amateur players from across the country. Edwards will have an opportunity to showcase his talents in front of some of the game’s top talent evaluators.
“I know one kid that is going. He was one of my teammates in Cooper’s Town,” Edwards said. “I don’t really try to prove anything. I’m just going to try and do the best that I can.”
A member from each of the 30 Major League Baseball teams will be on hand to watch Edwards along with the other participants.
“On Friday, scouts from every MLB team will come and look at you,” Edwards said. “It’s exciting and I want to do the best that I can to impress them.”
Along with the home run derby, Edwards will also have the opportunity to play in the All-American Team game. Alongside performing at the plate, Edwards hopes he can impress the scouts defensively as well.
“I have really been working hard on my fielding,” Edwards said. “I have been working hard on my endurance.”
Cade Edward’s mom, Kim Edwards, believes this opportunity proves that hard work pays off.
“It’s very exciting and I’m very proud of him,” Kim Edwards said. “It’s a lot of work. He practices in some shape or form every day. It’s exciting to see him get some recognition and have some opportunities. This opens the door for him.”
