The Pike County Bulldogs entered the postseason with high hopes after a perfect 10-0 regular season, but had their championship dreams dashed in the first round at home.

T. R. Miller came into Brundidge and handed the Bulldogs a 25-13 loss to end Pike County’s season.

The Bulldogs reached the end zone first, with Rayshawn Reynolds breaking free on a 60-yard touchdown to give Pike County the 7-3 lead.

The Tigers responded immediately, however, with a touchdown of their own, bringing their lead back to 9-7.

A 44-yard pass to Darrick Myhand looked to put the Bulldogs back on top, but the touchdown was called back for a block in the back penalty. Combined with a  holding penalty two plays later, the Bulldogs drive stalled and the Tigers took the opportunity to add another field goal before halftime. Down just five points, the Bulldogs started the third quarter with a drive and a chance to retake the lead. But the T.R. Miller defense held and stopped the Bulldogs on fourth down.

The Tigers worked their way methodically down the field, taking a big chunk of time off the clock while extending the lead to 18-7.

T. R. Miller would stop the Bulldogs again before driving 92 yards for another touchdown to slam the door shut on any comeback attempt, taking a 25-7 lead. Pike County quickly returned the favor, scoring a late touchdown bring the game within two possessions, but did not have enough time on the clock to come back.

Head coach Fred Holland said he is proud of the way his team performed all season.

“I’m proud of the way we played,” Holland said. “We just got the short end of the stick tonight. We got outplayed. I’m proud of the kids. We had a lot of players make great contributions. They have nothing to be ashamed of.”
