The Charles Henderson Trojans aim to get back to Birmingham with a new-look roster under head coach Dyneshia Jones.

“We lose players every year,” Jones said. “Every team loses players. I still have a good group of talented ladies on the team. I am excited and anxious to get it done. With all these practices, we are all ready to hit the court.”
Despite the loss of two of their top three scorers, things haven’t changed this fall for Jones and the Trojans. They are going to stick to what has made them successful over the last handful of years, a style that helped them win a state championship.
“Nothing is different,” Jones said. “We are still doing the same things with different players.”
Moore enters the season as Charles Henderson’s most improved player in back-to-back seasons. Her knowledge on the court continues to grow.
Moore and Jones are the two longest-tenured players on the roster
“Tuti has been here since the seventh grade,” Jones said. “This is Samira’s fifth year, so they have been here. They know what I want and how I want things. As far as leadership, the younger ones look up to them.”
Christian Jackson is new to the Trojans this season after spending time with Dothan. She will be looked upon to play valuable minutes at the guard position.
“She is an important guard that will be very important to this team,” Jones said.
Makala Hobdy jumped on the scene as an eighth grader last season. Now as a freshman, she will be leaned on more heavily this time around.
“We are looking forward to her doing the same things,” Jones said. “She understands the game and she does a lot of things that Niaira does, so she picks up off her which is great. I can depend on her to step up.”
Last season, the Trojans failed to make it back to Birmingham a year after winning it all. This year, the Trojans enter the season hungry for a return trip.
“They know it’s one game at a time,” Jones said. “We prepare for everything. It’s big for us being able to play Auburn in game one. We have to remain humble and do what we need to do. Losing that game was heartbreaking, but we all know what we could have done and what we should have done.”
The Trojans are two games into their season. They have defeated both Auburn and Highland Home.
