Postseason accolades kept pouring in for the Trojans on Friday when it was announced that freshman safety Dell Pettus was named to the Pro Football Focus All-America Team as an honorable mention.
Pettus becomes Troy’s third All-American in the last three seasons joining Carlton Martial in 2018 and Marcus Jones in 2017.
Pettus finished the season with 63 total tackles. He leads all freshmen in that category since he took over as a starter in week three.
Averaging 5.9 tackles per game in his starts, Pettus’ best game came in Troy’s loss against Arkansas State when he compiled a total of 10 tackles and earned the team’s defensive player of the week award.
Pettus finished with the second most snaps on the team behind only sophomore linebacker Carlton Martial. Pettus beat out Martial as the team’s best tackler according to Pro Football Focus and ranked fifth among all freshmen in the nation and second among safeties.
Pettus was also named to the All-Sun Belt Team as an honorable mention.
