Charles Henderson honored it’s fall student athletes during a sports banquet inside the school cafetorium on Wednesday evening.
Athletic Director and head football coach Brad McCoy was on hand as were members of the football, volleyball and cross cross-country teams. The cheerleading squad was also honored on Wednesday evening.
“We are recognizing kids that are cheerleaders, ran cross country and played volleyball and football,” McCoy said. “We recognized each class of athletes and then get into some individual awards that each head coach presented.”
As per usual, Dan Smith emceed the event on Wednesday. The event was a special time for each individual student athlete to be recognized in front of their peers and coaches.
“It should mean a lot to the players and the parents,” McCoy said. “We understand as coaches how much time and effort goes in to being a student athlete. You not only have the academics you need to stay on top of, but you have all your practices, games and competitions. It takes a huge commitment not only on the kid’s part, but for the parents. We always like to conclude each semester with a banquet to honor these kids. I think it’s the least we can do.”
The fall semester saw plenty of success for each program. The football and volleyball teams made it to the postseason and the cheerleading squad performed well at camp.
“It’s always easier when you get to the end of your season and celebrate at a banquet when you do have success,” McCoy said. “Our football, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading teams all had certain things that they want to celebrate and talk about. It’s always fun and exciting to be a part of that.”
