In addition to an enhanced risk of damaging winds and tornadoes on Saturday, a wind advisory has now been declared for Saturday.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham is warning of winds of 10 to 20 mph beginning overnight Saturday throughout the day with potential gusts of up to 40 mph.
Severe weather is predicted for the area between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. that could bring winds of up to 70 mph and the risk of tornadoes as well.
EMA Director Herb Reeves said the key is for residents to remain weather aware as the weather event progresses.
He also urges caution for any drivers as wet roadways and high winds make for a dangerous mix.
